LeRoy Howard Stiles, 70, was born August 7, 1944, in Bakersfield, CA to Ausberry Howard Stiles and Minnie Lois Hinton and died August 15, 2014, at HopeWest Hospice in Grand Junction, CO.
Lee is survived by his wife of 35
years, Patricia Jean Stiles (Pfister) and four daughters, Lynleigh Novello (Stiles), Lacy Rath (Stiles), both of Yreka, CA; Meghan Jean Markiewicz (Stiles) of Westminster, CO and Marika Prinster (Stiles) of Palisade, CO; and his four grandchildren in California.
The youngest of four brothers, he followed in his family tradition of serving in the military and joined the Air Force. He served as an Air Policeman at Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii from 1963-1967.
Lee was a professional Land Surveyor and was elected Mesa County Surveyor. He served the public for two terms from 2002-2009. He loved science, nature and sharing what he learned with those around him. In his retirement he enjoyed working in his shop and feeding and watching the birds.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to HopeWest or Community Hospital of Grand Junction.
A memorial Mass will be held on Friday August 22, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and the burial will take place at 3:00 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
