Bessie Seamount passed away
July 11, 2014 at The Retreat at Palisade.
Bessie was 100 years and 5
months old.
Bessie was born in Lawrenceberg,
TN to William Schultsmeier
and Lydia Rishel in 1914.
Bessie spent her childhood in
Redwillow county near McCook,
NE and graduated from Platte Valley Academy in Shelton, NE. She
attended college at Southern Adventist University in Collegedale, TN.
Bessie married her husband Eldon Seamount in April 1937 at McCook
NE. She worked as a Teacher, Nurse and a Farm Wife. Bessie and Eldon
also resided in Niwot, CO and Loveland CO. She was a member of
the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Bessie loved to garden in her spare time. She cared for her husband
who had MS for 30 years, she also took care of her parents. Bessie
started teaching school in Northwestern NE when she was 17. She rode
a horse 5 miles & then had to build a fire to warm the school. Since
some of the boys were older and taller than she was, she pulled her
hair into a severe bun and wore “old lady clothes” so they would pay
attention to her. Bessie is best remembered by her family for her home
made bread and hard toast!
Bessie is survived by her son, Wayne Seamount, Montrose, CO;
daughter, Vera Clay of OR, 5 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren,
numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her husband Eldon & grandson, Johnny
A Grave side service will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, July 18th at Palisade
Cemetary. Memorial contributions may be made to Intermountain
Junior Academy, Grand Junction.
