He is survived by his wife, Helen Catherine; one son, James; and
three daughters, Cathy, Celia and Teresa.

“Bill” was born to Plateau Valley ranching couple Paul Porter and
Ruth Celia (Coakley) Carnahan on their ranch, south of Collbran.
He was the youngest great-grandson of Zacariah Bertholf and
Malissa Carruthers, and grandson of Ervin Coakley and Dora
Bertholf.
He grew up in Collbran and married Helen C. Gitchell, while
serving three years in the US Army. Bill and Helen celebrated their
61st anniversary last July 7, 2013.
Bill worked 30 years in maintenance, for the State of Colorado
Department of Transportation.
Bill always enjoyed fishing and hunting. Hunting arrowheads,
digging antique bottles, and woodworking were his hobbies. He
enjoyed winters going to Mesquite to play Keno. He loved his
Boston Terriers.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; son, James; three daughters,
Cathy, Celia, and Teresa; eight grandchildren, Candace, Gabriel,
Jessie, Justin, Cody, Jeremiah, Will, and Shane, as well as six greatgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; brother, Fred;
sister, Patricia; infant twin-sisters; son, Michael; infant daughter,
Mary Lee, and granddaughter, Michelle.
Graveside services will be held at Mesa Cemetery, on Monday at
December 23, 2013, beginning at 2:00 p.m. Family and friends are
invited to gather afterwards at the Carnahan home.
Services are entrusted to Palisade Funeral Home.
