Vernon M. Olsen passed away
Thursday, July 17, at the Hospice
Care Center in Grand Junction. He
was 86.
Born in Oakland, California, in
1928, he grew up in Salt Lake City
as the middle of five children. At
18 years of age, he enlisted in the
Army, where he rose to the rank of
Staff Sergeant within a year and a
half. With help from the G.I. Bill, he put himself through school, becoming
a proud graduate of the University of Utah.
His career in business took him to jobs in Utah, California, Maryland,
Michigan, and Ohio. In 1994, he and his wife, Helen, moved to Grand
Junction. They enjoyed outings with the Over-the-Hill Gang and became
active members of American Lutheran Church. Over the years
they traveled widely, visiting every state in the continental U.S. and
many foreign countries.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; their daughter, Cherie Winner of
East Falmouth, MA; his brother, Ted Olsen of Draper, UT; and many
nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, at
American Lutheran Church, 631 26-1/2 Road. Interment will be held at
1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 21, at Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery.

Vernon Max Olsen, 86, Grand Junction, died July 17, 2014, at
Hospice Care Center.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at American Lutheran Church.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Veterans Memorial
Cemetery of Western Colorado.
Mr. Olsen was an Army veteran and businessman.
Survivors include his wife, Helen; a daughter, Cherie Winner of
East Falmouth, Massachusetts; and a brother, Ted of Draper, Texas.
