Longtime resident of Grand
Junction, Maxine Hoey, 88, met
her Lord on Christmas Eve at the
Palisade Living Center in Palisade,
CO.
Maxine was born on December
21, 1925 in Rooks County, KS
to Grover and Mary Stillwell.
She grew up in Laton, KS, and
graduated from Natoma High
School in 1943. She attended Salt
City Business School in Hutchinson. From Hutchinson she moved
to Denver, CO to go to work. There she met Earl Hoey. They were
married on August 19, 1945, and had 3 sons.
Maxine was a believer in continuing education earning an Associate
of Applied Science Degrees in Electronics in 1969, and Nursing in
1972 from Mesa College. She was a nurse at St Mary’s Hospital for 20
years, serving the last 10 years of her career as the Coordinator of the
Infection Control Unit.
She was active in community activities. In 1972 she served a 3 year
term as state president of CO Extension Homemakers attending the
National and International Conventions, traveling to Australia in 1975.
She earned an honorary lifetime membership and helped establish the
CO Homemaker of the year award. She and Earl were charter members
of the Fruitvale Lions Club; she remained an active member serving
the community in many areas. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, made
costumes for the High School, College, and Dinner Theatre plays, and
served on the Fair Board and judged fair entries.
She is survived by her sisters LaVern LaRue, and LaVada Campbell
both of KS; Three Sons Edwin (Muriel) of Denver, CO, Richard
(Patricia) of Grand Junction, CO, Keith (Shelley) of Montrose, CO;
seven grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren. She is preceded in
death by her parents and Brother Maurice.
Viewing will be held at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary, Monday December,
30th from 5pm to 7pm.
Services will be held at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary, Tuesday December
31, at 2:00 pm with interment following at Orchard Mesa Cemetery.
