Kenneth Dale Wilson, 1937-2015.
Former Eagle County Undersheriff Kenneth D. Wilson Sr. passed away April 11 in Fort Mohave, Arizona. He was born in Danville, Illinois, on Jan. 31, 1937, to Carl W. and Mildred I. Wilson.

He began his public service career by joining the Army, where he served eight years for his country. Ken lived in Eagle County for multiple decades, and during that time he held many community service roles: volunteer fire department chief, ambulance service, deputy coroner and his final role was undersheriff.

He will be remembered by those who knew him as an honorable and compassionate man who lent his voice to a number of causes including the Special Olympics. Never shy of voicing his opinion, Ken was a great community leader who truly loved those around him.

Preceding him in death besides his parents were his wife, Patricia (Salee) Wilson; a nephew, firefighter Bradley N. (Cinda) Wilson; and a cousin, Larry Bowles. Ken is survived by his partner, Donna Blackmer, of Eagle; children Kenneth D. (Venus) Wilson Jr., of Australia; Marilyn Y. (Paul) Charlesworth, of Grand Junction; Tim M. (Diane) Wilson, of Eagle; and Sherry Wilson, of Glenwood Springs; siblings Norman B. (Donna) Wilson, of Verona, Pennsylvania; Shirley A. (Andrew) Stillman; Marjorie I. (Robert) Hirsch; Phillip C. Wilson; and Debra K. (Charles) Smith, all of Kalamazoo, Michigan; grandchildren Kevyn A. (Ben) Fairchild, of New York; Buck M. Case; Luke E. (Cathy) Case; and Tommy Wilson, all of Grand Junction; three great-grandchildren, Ayden, Anastazia and Avalyn; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A public service will be held in the exhibit hall at the Eagle County Fairgrounds on Saturday at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to the Special Olympics of Eagle County, care of Julie Fite, P.O. Box 2205, Glenwood Springs, CO, 81602.
