Nick Nicolas, 96, Grand Junction, died Oct. 6, 2014, at Colorado State Veterans Home in Rifle. A trisagion will be 7 p.m. Oct. 19 at Cal-lahan-Edfast Mortuary. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Oct. 20 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church followed by burial with military honors at Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado.He is survived by one son, Steve of Discovery Bay, California; two daughters, Carol Sue Blankers and Yvonne Cass, both of Grand Junc-tion; one sister, Chris Torres of Whittier, California; eight grandchil-dren and six great-grandchildren.Memorial contributions to Colorado State Veterans Home, 851 E. 5th St., Rifle, 81650.

October 11, 1917 - October 6, 2014
Nick Nicolas, age 96, passed away October 6, 2014 at Veterans State Home in Rifle, CO. Nick was born to Christ Nicolas and Eva Caldwell in Los Angeles, CA on October 11, 1917.
His mother passed away one year later, and Nick was sent to Greece to live with his grandparents, aunts, and uncles. He grew up in Greece until he was a teenager and saved enough money to come to this country. He lived with his Dad and new family in Pico Rivera, CA, and soon learned Spanish and English.
He attended John Marshal High School. He later owned a liquor store, a bar (Nick’s Playhouse), a water truck business, a salesman for Coors Beer, and later owned a limousine business. He served in the US Navy during WWII, in the Pacific, Okinawa, and Nagasaki.
Nick and his wife, Frances (Brooks) Nicolas, moved to Grand
Junction 24 years ago. Nick was an excellent pool player, dancer, poker player, artist, and fisherman, who owned many quarter horses. He loved going to the racetrack.
Nick loved people and was a friend to everyone. He was a great story teller, and told a lot of jokes. He was always the life of the party.
Nick is survived by his daughters, Carol Sue Blankers, and Yvonne (Shane) Cass; son, Steve (Denise) Nicolas; sister, Chris Torres; grandchildren, Chris (Barb) Allyn, Steven Nicolas, Eric (Dawn) Cass, Dane VanDusen, Kourtnee (Josh) Skidmore, Michelle Nicolas, Erin (Juan) Orellana, and Ryan Cass, and six great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Frances, and son-in-law, Allan Blankers.
Services will be held Sunday, October 19, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. Funeral will be held Monday, October 20 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, followed by military services at 1:00 p.m. at the Veterans Cemetery on D Road.
