In Loving Memory of Weronika Jurewicz
June 15, 1922 - October 7, 2013
Even though a year has passed, our memories will never fade of our wonderful mother, wife, grandmother and great-grandmother, Weronika Jurewicz. Weronika, 91 of Mesa, Colorado entered eternal life at the hour of Divine Mercy (3:00 p.m.) on October 7, 2013, the feast day of our Lady of the Rosary.
Although of Polish nationality, Weronika Grobelna was born in Eddinghausen, Germany, where she was enlisted into forced labor as a young child. Many years later she was reunited with her family in Poland. It was during World War II that she met her future husband, Jan Jurewicz, in a work camp. The two married in 1950 and in 1951 welcomed their son, Richard. In 1952 they left Poland for a better life in America, first immigrating to New York and eventually settling in Chicago, Illinois, where they welcomed two daughters, Irene and Jane.
After the death of Weronika’s husband in 1985, she moved to Mesa, Colorado, to live with her daughter, Irene and son-in-law, Gerald Fritzler, where she helped raise two of her six granddaughters, Marena and Tanya. While in Mesa, Weronika’s green thumb was evident in the beautiful flowers and garden she happily and lovingly cared for at the family home.
She had an unshakeable faith in our Lord, Jesus Christ. Weronika prayed the Rosary everyday and could often be found in prayer at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Grand Junction, Colorado.
Her final six years of life were spent in sunny Clearwater, Florida, with her daughter, Jane and her husband Janusz. Janusz, Jane and their daughter Victoria, lovingly cared for her twenty-four hours a day, while she struggled and ultimately lost her battle with dementia. Weronika is buried next to her husband, Jan, at St. Adalbert Cemetery in Chicago, Illinois.
Weronika is preceded in death by her mother, Josefa Grobelna and her husband Jan Jurewicz.
She is survived by her brother, Stanislaus Grobelna and sister Stasha Dobiec both in Poland, numerous nieces and nephews, children Richard (Cathy) Jurewicz, Irene (Gerald) Fritzler and Jane (Janusz) Jurewicz. Granddaughters, Sarah, Amy, Lee, Marena, Tanya and Victoria.
Great-granddaughters, Makayla, Meridith and Adelyn.
Mass for her intention will be held Sunday, October 19, 2014, 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
Rest in peace Busia, we miss you. Kocham cie bardzo.
