Dorothy Ruth Follett
September 8, 1917 - October 14, 2014
Dorothy Ruth Goodrick-Follett began her life’s journey on September 8, 1917, in Columbus, Kansas, the daughter of Zebina and Anna Corley Goodrick. Dorothy died October 14, 2014, at HopeWest Hospice Care Center in Grand Junction, Colorado, at the age of 97.
She attended schools in Columbus, graduating from Cherokee County High School, with the class of 1935. She married Theron R. Follett in 1936. He preceded her in death in 1978.
Dorothy lived the first 86 years of her life in Columbus, moving to Grand Junction in 2003, to be closer to family. She was residing at The Fountains Assisted Living at the time of her death.
She lived an active life, assisting her husband in the operation of Follett’s IGA, and then later working at a newspaper and dress shop in Columbus. Through the years she was actively involved with the Girl Scouts, the First Methodist Church, where she assisted in the operation of their Thrift Shop for over 20 years, until her move to Grand Junction.
She often answered the call of other community needs. She was a member of Chapter N PEO and Beta Sigma Phi in Grand Junction.
She will be remembered by her family and friends, as the ultimate caregiver, continuing that service after her move to The Fountains. She enjoyed walks outdoors, the change of seasons, reading, football, and baseball; but most especially, time with family. She loved to laugh and cherished the good-natured teasing of her grandsons.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda (Charles) Sours of Grand Junction, three grandsons, Mark (Tami) of Rifle, CO; Matt of Calimesa, CA, and Craig of Castle Rock, CO, as well as two great-grandsons, Mike of Grand Junction, and David (Samantha) of El Paso, TX.
She was preceded in death by husband, Theron; sisters, Minnie, Florence, and Hazel; as well as her parents.
A Celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held Friday, October, 17, 2014, at 2:00 p.m., in The Fountains.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy’s name to The Fountains, Music Fund, 3203 N. 15th Street, Grand Junction, CO 81506, or HopeWest Hospice Care Center, 3090B N. 12th Street, Grand Junction, CO, 81506.
Services are entrusted to Palisade Funeral Home of Palisade, Colorado.
