Doris Ann Erven
March 10, 1927 - October 17, 2014
Doris Ann Bosley Erven was born to Cleo A. and Velva Bosley, in Clifton, Colorado, on March 10, 1927. She had two older brothers, Arthur Owen and James Leland, who are both now deceased.
Her early life was spent on her parent’s fruit farm in Clifton, and she went to Clifton High School, graduating in the spring of 1945.
After high school Doris went to Mesa Junior College, getting an Associates Degree in Business.
She married George Edward Erven, in 1948. From that marriage two sons were born, William Arthur, in 1954; and John Curtis, in 1958.
After they divorced in 1960, Doris raised their two sons.
She worked for Mesa County Valley School District # 51 as a secretary.
She worked for many years as the lead secretary in the Personnel Department, and later, as support staff in the Audio Visual Department.
Doris retired from the school district in 1987 to continue a life devoted to helping others.
She was trained to teach adults to read and taught several individuals for many years. She volunteered in the schools and was active in the school district retired employees organization.
Doris was selected as a deaconess at Clifton Christian Church, a position that she deeply valued, and in later life served the church by heading up the NTO program for seniors. She was an important fixture at church services and in Sunday school, where she truly loved learning more about her faith and the scripture.
She loved her broad extended family, and relished the times when they were together.
She is survived by her sons, William A. (Cindi Range), of Clifton; and John C. (Leslie) of Palisade; and her granddaughter, Jessica Lloyd (Sidney) of Castle Rock. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Geneva Bosley, her niece Gail (Jim) Ellison and nephew, James (Linda) Bosley, their children and their families.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. in the new sanctuary at Clifton Christian Church, with internment to follow at Palisade Municipal Cemetery. A reception dinner will follow at Clifton Christian Church.
All who knew her will miss her.
Donations can be made in her memory to the Cross-cultural Mission Fund or the Building Fund at Clifton Christian Church.
