Charles Theodore "Chuck" Parsons Jr., 76, passed away quietly at his home in Wheatland Nov. 22, 2001, after a brief illness.
Chuck was born the eldest of two sons of Charles T. and Bertha (Dietrich) Parson May 24, 1925, in Rifle. He was raised on a ranch near Granby where he graduated from eighth-grade. The family moved to Denver until Jan. 1942, when they moved to the family ranch near Kremmling. Chuck graduated from Kremmling Union High School in May 1943. He then joined the US Navy in October of the year, spending most of his tour in the South Pacific Islands until being honorably discharged June 16, 1946, returning to the family ranch. Chuck married Dorathea Mugrage Aug. 16, 1946, in Kremmling and their son, Robert Reed Parsons, was born Dec. 20, 1947. They then moved to Gunnison where Chuck attended Western State College and their second son, Charles T. "Ted" Parsons III was born Sept. 26, 1950. Chuck earned his teaching degree in Dec. 1951. He taught science, band and coached football and wrestling in Dove Creek and Hayden from 1952 until 1957. He was well-known for playing the saxophone and was part of a dance band in his early years. He moved to Wheatland in the fall of 1957 where he continued to teach and coach until his retirement in 1987. Chuck dedicated 25 years to the town of Wheatland, serving as Mayor and as a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was recognized by the Wyoming Coaches Association for 20 years of dedication to young men through coaching. He took great pleasure in spending time with his family, especially hunting and camping with his sons and grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing and was an avid trap shooter until his health made it too difficult.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Dora of Wheatland; a brother, Lowell Parsons, and wife, Margaret, of Edinburgh, Scotland; his sons and their wives, Bob and Kathy of Powell, Wyo. and Ted and JoEllen of Hulett, Wy.; four grandchildren, Jennie Nicole Parsons of San Francisco, Calif., J.R. Parsons of Laramie, Wyo., Lance Corporal Joseph Bynon Parsons of Okinawa, Japan and Chelsea Dawn Parsons of Hulett.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He will be deeply missed by all his family which includes relatives, neighbors, former students, friends and his former wrestlers whom he always referred to as "my kids."
A memorial service was held at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 30, 2001, at the United Church of Christ in Wheatland, Wyo. Rev. Jeff Barton officiated. Interment will be in the Kremmling Cemetery at a later date.
