Ronald Gail Covington was born
November 30, 1936, in Ada, Oklahoma.
He was the third child of
Velma and Wilk Covington.
He started working in the oil business
at the age of 17 and continued
until 2010, when he retired. He
worked his way up to a boss and
made many lifelong friends like
Scotty and Blu. His son, Brian followed
in his footsteps. His dad and brother, Ken, also were in the oil
business. Ron made lots of friends all over the country and sang and
played guitar to thousands of acquaintances and strangers.
He met Marty Robbins when Robbins was just getting started. One
of Ron’s greatest talents was imitating famous singers. He could imitate
Jim Reeves, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Elvis and many
more. Ron was a big admirer of Chet Atkins and Mark Knopfler, great
guitar talents. He met Red Adair once, the famous fire fighter was so
impressed he asked Ron to work with him. Ron had a crippled ankle
and had to decline. He worked on that ankle in dire pain because he
wanted to make a good living for his family. Ron had great respect for
men who worked hard.
He loved his family. His wife, Jeannie, told him he was the most romantic
man she ever met. He had the personality, confidence and looks
to accomplish anything he ever tried.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, December 5, 2014, at 1:00
p.m. at the Veterans Cemetery of Western Colorado, 2830 Riverside
Parkway, Grand Junction, CO.

Ronald Gail Covington, 77, of
Grand Junction, Colorado passed
away Saturday, November 22,
2014.
He is remembered fondly for the
music he enjoyed and the many
songs that he shared through the
years.
Ronald was born November 30,
1936, in Ada, Oklahoma to Wilk and Velma Covington.
He proudly served in the United States Army for six years before
he was honorably discharged. While stationed overseas in Germany,
Ronald’s passion and talent for music resulted in his band. Following
his service to his country, he dedicated many years to the oil industry
where he fulfilled a variety of responsibilities and positions. It was his
family loyalty that took his children “on the road” with him on numerous
occasions.
Throughout his years Ronald took pleasure in boating, fishing, guitar
playing, and singing. It seems as if there had always been a song in his
heart.
Ronald is survived by his three children, Brian Covington, Denyce
Abbott, and Holli Covington; four grandchildren, Jessica Lopez, Trevor
Abbott, Breena Calhoon, and Jackson Abbott; two great-grandchildren,
Adrian Lopez and Sofia Lopez.
Graveside service will be held on Friday, December 5, 2014, at 1:00
p.m. at the Veterans Cemetery of Western Colorado, 2830 Riverside
Parkway, Grand Junction, CO. Reception to follow.
While Ronald will be dearly missed by his family, his song will forever
play on.

If ever I would leave you, it
wouldn’t be in summer, seeing
you in summer I never would
go. Your hair streaked with
sunlight, your lips red as
flame, your face with a luster
that puts gold to shame! But if
I’d ever leave you, it couldn’t
be in autumn, how I’d leave in
autumn I never will know. I’ve seen how you sparkle when fall
nips the air. I know you in autumn and I must be there. And
could I leave you running merrily through the snow? Or on a
wintry evening when you catch the fire’s glow? If ever I would
leave you, how could it be in springtime, knowing how in spring
I"m bewitched by you so? Oh, no! Not in springtime, summer,
winter or fall. No, never could I leave you at all.

If I never see your loving face again. I’ll go on loving you till the end. And if I’m brokenhearted and I don’t find a way to mend. I’ll go on loving you till the end. The years and miles may separate you from me. The pain may lessen more as time goes by But as for me the memories will never dim And I’ll go on loving you till the end. If we’re ever free to love again I know Straight to your waiting arms is where I’ll go. And there I’ll stay forever and I’ll prove to you again. I’ll go on loving you till the end. I’ll go on loving you till the end. - Cathy Gosdin This is the song you left for me. I’ll always love you. Jeannie

I wouldn’t know what to say I wouldn’t know what to do If you came back from Heaven And I could look at you Would I fumble for the words Would I be a little shy Would I bust right out with laughter Or break right down and cry Oh, if you came back from heaven Would it be like it was then Could we just pick up where we left off And try it all again Oh, if you came back from Heaven It would freeze me in my tracks And I hope God knows, if He let you go I’d never send you back Do your kisses feel the same Do you still have the same touch And will you whisper softly ‘Cause you’ve missed me so much Have you heard all my prayers When I laid down at night And did you feel my body When I held your pillow tight Oh, if you came back from Heaven Would it be like it was then Could we just pick up where we left off And try it all again Oh, if you came back from Heaven It would freeze me in my tracks And I hope God knows, if He let you go I’d never send you back And if, God forbid, You leave this earth Again while I sleep I hope He knows, if you go You’ll be bringing me Oh, if you came back from Heaven Would it be like it was then Could we just pick up where we left off And try it all again Oh, if you came back from Heaven It would freeze me in my tracks And I hope God knows, if He let you go I’d never send you back I hope God knows, if He let you go I’d never send you back. A Picture of Me
- Norris Wilson and
George Richey
Imagine a world where no
music was playing
Then think of a church with nobody praying
If you’ve ever looked up at a sky with no blue.
Then you’ve seen a picture of me without you.
Have you walked though a garden where nothing was growing.
Or stood by a river where nothing was flowing.
If you’ve seen a rose bud unkissed by the dew.
Then you’ve seen a picture of me without you.
And you picture heaven with no angels singing.
Or a quiet Sunday moring with no church bells ringing
If you watched as the heart of a child breaks in two.
Then you’ve seen a picture of me without you.
"Flashlight"
Love, Jeannie
