Dorothy Ethington Hayes
May 14, 1924 - October 25, 2014
Six months ago my mother slipped away and little did I now how very much I would miss her. She was a great lady and touched the lives of many.
At that time someone very special was not mentioned and thanked as she should have been. At this time I would like to extend a special thanks for all of the caring and
thoughtfulness that was shown by Shirley Howard, "my adopted daughter", as she would say.

Dorothy May Ethington Hayes beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and greatgreat- grandmother left us on October 25, 2014, after a short illness. Dorothy was born on May 14, 1924 in Quincy, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, Artie and Pansy Stice, as well as three brothers and a sister.
Dorothy married Virgil Ethington on October 28, 1938, in Quincy.
They were blessed with a daughter, Sylvia Ann (Ethington) Schmidt on October 3, 1939.
Dorothy and Virgil moved to Grand Junction in 1944. They were active members of the community and Virgil owned Ethington Iron and Metal. Dorothy was a homemaker. Virgil passed away in August, 1975.
Dorothy married Charles Hayes in 1977. She and Chuck were especially
active in the Grand Junction Moose Lodge #270. Dorothy
became Senior Regent and received her College Award which was a
dream for her in 2011. She remained active in the Moose until a few months before her illness. Chuck passed away in August, 2006.
Dorothy loved her family and she was an inspiration to all. Whether it was camping, hunting, fishing, or having a huge family dinner for the holidays, she loved having her whole family around her. She was a Broncos and a Rockies fan. Whether watching on TV or at a game in person it was a joyous event for her.

Schmidt of Hotchkiss, and Brian (Audrey) Arnold Schmidt of Phoenix.
She had five great-granchildren, Brandon (Tara) Schmidt, Ashley Ann Schmidt, Dallan (Ashley) Schmidt of Phoenix; Cara (Josh) Helmick of Cedaredge, and Kyle (Bailey) Schmidt of Hotchkiss; great-great-grandchildren, Navy May and Calloway Schmidt of Phoenix; and niece,
