Alfred (Al) Sanford, 70, Gateway, died Nov. 28, 2014, at his home. Services are pending with Fruita Funeral Home.Mr. Sanford was a miner.He is survived by his wife, Toni; two sons, Clifford Lynn Sandrea and Alfred Dean Jr.; two daughters, Shelley Dean Lucio and Jeannie Lynn; two sisters, Elda Graham and Beth McClelland; 22 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Alfred and Rose “Toni” Irene
Reed were married April 10, 1964.
They raised four children, Clifford
Lynn Sandrea, Shelley Dean Lucio,
Alfred Dean Jr, and Jeannie
Lynn.
Alfred attended Gateway and
Grand Junction High schools,
graduating in 1962. His work included
ranching, mining, truck
driving, equipment operator and laying gas pipeline. Al spent many
years volunteering his time to the Gateway community and served as
president of the Gateway Community Club for many years. Al was a
4-H leader and helped with many community activities.
Al and Toni lived in Cortez for 15 years before moving back to Gateway.
He was a member of the LDS church and always enjoyed his
monthly visits with their home teachers.
Alfred was loved for his fun and boisterous attitude, he was called
“Uncle Punk”, he excelled in many activities.
Alfred was preceded in death by his father, mother, step-father, Homer
Kennedy; four sisters, Betty Miles, Melba Nelson, Jean Eades, Patsy
Wareham, Elsie Kennedy; and brother, Douglas Kennedy.
Alfred is survived by his wife, Toni and their four children and their
spouses, two sisters, Elda Graham and Beth McClelland. Alfred is survived
by 22 grand children, 24 great grandchildren and numerous nieces
and nephews.
Graveside service will be at the Elmwood Cemetery, Fruita, Colorado
on Saturday December 6th, at 1:00 p.m.
