Robert "Bob" Neil Carr
passed away peacefully at
home on December 30, 2014,
in Gunnison, Colorado.
Bob was born on September
24, 1931, in Hotchkiss, Colorado
to Rita and Ernest Carr. He
received a bachelor’s degree
from Western State College in
Gunnison and had a long-time
profession there as a general
contractor specializing in concrete. He also owned and operated
a number of residential and commercial rental properties.
Known to many as "Big Bob" or "Big Guy", Bob was a visionary
and generous community leader, active in a variety of organizations;
Elks, Masons, Eastern Star and local government. He
was an avid outdoor sportsman. He loved to hunt and fish, and
especially enjoyed expeditions to Alaska to pan for gold, hunt
bear and fish for salmon and halibut. In his later years, he enjoyed
many successful trips to the Colorado mountain casinos.
Bob is survived by his wife of 15 years, Aetna Goodner-Carr;
sister, Eleanor Jane (Jim) Conner of Delta, Colorado; daughters,
Cindy (Dick) Viehman of Gunnison; Jo Ellen (Dennis) Davidson
of Lone Tree; Sheri (Mike) LaCosse of Norwood, and Kathy
Carr (Gale Pickett) of Gunnison; as well as step-children,
Lee Ann (John) Mears, Melinda (Daryl) Davis, Tom Holler, and
Lisa (Dave) Dennis all of Gunnison. All together Bob’s family
legacy spans five generations. He was preceded in death by his
first wife of 43 years, Betty Jo; his parents; his brother, Don and
sister, Beth Ebberts.
A memorial service is scheduled at 11:00 a.m. on January 10,
2015, at the Community Church of Gunnison, 107 N. Iowa St.
with a reception following.
In lieu of flowers, and for memorial gifts, the family requests
donations be sent to the Gunnison Valley Health Hospice at 120
N. Boulevard, Gunnison, CO 81230 or to Western State Colorado
University Foundation, P.O. Box 1264, Gunnison, CO 81230
for athletic scholarships.
