battle.
“God saw you getting tired and
a cure was not to be. So he put his
arms around you and whispered,
come to me” ~ author unknown
Carla was born in Fort Defiance,
Arizona on July 29, 1942, to Sudie Cleo (Bowers) and Robert Edward
Nichols. She was raised in Durango, Colorado before moving to Denver,
Colorado and finally settling in Grand Junction, Colorado where
she raised her five daughters. Carla was an Optician and managed the
Pearle Vision Center until she retired. She had many patients who
would drive from the surrounding area to see only her. Her strong work
ethic was passed on through the generations.
Carla loved her family and friends and made her home welcome to
all who stopped by. We will remember the joy and fun that she brought
into our lives. Her life was full, and she was always surrounded with
laughter. The pride that she had in her family cannot be expressed in
words, and our gratitude for having her in our lives will never fade.
Carla is survived by her daughters, Carrie Roweton of Montrose,
Colorado; Annette Gurkin and Jennifer Blaney both of Grand Junction,
Colorado; Janelle Smith of Beaufort, South Carolina and her husband,
Mike, and Amy DiMarzio of Grand Junction, Colorado and her
husband, Brian. She leaves two sisters and one brother, Pat Palmer of
Grand Junction, Colorado; Ann Mason of Salida, Colorado and her
husband Gary, and Jim Nichols of Durango, Colorado. She is preceded
in death by her parents and her brother, Rob Nichols. Carla also
leaves ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces
and nephews.
Services will be held in Grand Junction, on Saturday, December 13,
2014, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. The family will
also have a celebration in her honor Saturday, May 9, 2015.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Hopewest Hospice Care Center in
Carla’s memory. We will be forever grateful to all the Angels that cared
for our Mother.
