Clara Frances Foy
September 25, 1918 - January 5, 2015
Frances Foy, age 96, went peacefully into her Lord’s arms January 5th in Fruita, Colorado. Born Clara Frances McDougald, to David C. and Mary McDougald on September 25, 1918, in Waxahachie, Texas, she graduated from high school at the age of 16 and went on to receive her Bachelors in Education by way of numerous colleges and universities.
Frances met and married Harold Foy in Moab, and began teaching in Las Sal at the age of 18. She was the school “marm”, principal, and custodian for kindergartners through eighth graders in a one room school house. During her years as an educator she taught three generations of entire families in La Sal and later Moab.
Frances’ greatest joys were her family, friends, gardening, fishing, camping, and arrow head hunting, when it was legal. Her pet peeve was having her name misspelled and improper grammar and punctuation. Her handmade quilts and baby blankets remain her family’s greatest treasures.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; both parents, and brothers, D.C., Ken (Audrey) McDougald, and Bill (Dorie) McDougald; in-laws, Fred Markle, James Reed Davis, Ralph Dalton, “Babe” (Marge) Foy, Weston and Nellie Massey, Roland and Dee Foy, and several nieces and nephews. She is survived by sisters, Dorothy Markle, and Mary Davis and sistersin- law, Mildred McDougald, Lois Shafer, and Vonna Dalton; her four children, Dave (Darleen) Foy, Angie (Jess) Arreola, Bill (Rachel) Foy, and Diny (Rick) Stengel; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation and viewing will be Friday, January 9th from 6 -8:00
p.m. at Spanish Valley Mortuary, with funeral services at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Community Church of Moab, 544 Mi Vida Drive. Interment will be at Sunset Cemetery on Spanish Valley Drive.
