Lloyd Everett Bruton, age 91, of Delta died in San Juan Care Center
after a brief illness.
Lloyd was born in Delta in 1923. He is preceded in death by his
parents, John and Lilllian (Greenwell) Bruton; two sisters, Viola and
Shirley; nephew, John Paul Wright and niece, Cheryl Wright States.
Lloyd spent the majority of his life in a Delta County and worked as
a carpenter and cabinet builder until his retirement at age 82. He was
proud of his service in the US Navy, serving in the South Pacific aboard
the USS Ormsby during WWII as a radioman. Upon discharge he returned
to Colorado where he attended Western State College as music
major. He married Patsy McCormick in 1949, the two left shortly
following their wedding to live in Los Angeles and attend USC. They
marked their 65th anniversary this past summer.
In 1953, following the birth of their son, they returned to raise their
family in Delta.
Survivors include Carrick “Rick” S. Bruton (Dayle) of Hillsboro, OR;
Kevin J. Bruton of Grand Junction, and daughter, Kerryann Mowry
(Ken) who travel the US full time. Other survivors include two grandchildren,
Casey Hughes of Denver, and Kelcy Workman (Mike) of
Grand Junction, and twin great-granddaughters, also of Grand Junction.
Many nieces and nephews also count among his survivors.
Lloyd was a member of a local flying club and got his pilot’s license
in 1947. He also was an Amateur Radio Operator (K0WGC) with his
license being earned in 1951.
