William Howard “Bill” Hawthorne
passed away on Wednesday,
November 12, 2014. He was born
on March 21, 1962, in Roseville,
CA to Jerry and Verna Hawthorne.
He was raised in Grand Junction
and attended Fruita Monument
High School. Bill married Karen
Serve in 1986, and they were married
for 21 years.
As a young man he helped his grandmother, Jessie Hawthorne, in her
restaurant, Jessie’s Kitchen, and was particularly helpful to his grandparents
in their later years. Bill enjoyed being in the outdoors especially
hunting, fishing, archery, and hiking. Bill was a talented artist from
a young age. His art was imaginative and creative and he had a talent
for making those around him laugh with his wry and intelligent sense
of humor.
Bill is preceded in death by his mother and grandfather, Victor Hawthorne.
He is survived by father, Jerry Hawthorne of Fruita; brother,
Dale Koch and nephew, Lance Koch of Grand Junction; sister, Kate
Hawthorne of Denver; uncle, Bill Hawthorne and family; grandmother,
Jessie Hawthorne of Grand Junction, and many friends and loved ones.
A celebration of Bill’s life will be held in the spring of 2015 in Grand
Junction and Lost Lake in Gunnison County. Deepest thanks to Karen
McCulley and all Hospice caregivers.
Donations can be made in Bill’s name to HopeWest Hospice Care
Center in Grand Junction.
