March 25, 1931 - January 9, 2015
Sylvia Serrano, 83, of Fruita, CO, passed away surrounded by her loving family at the HopeWest Care Center in Grand Junction, after a short illness. Sylvia was born in Durango, CO, to Andres and Rita Medina. As a child, she moved to Fruita and attended schools there. During that time, she met the love of her life, Don Serrano. They married on June 29, 1950, and remained married for almost 63 years, until Don passed away April 18, 2013. As a family they enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and gardening. Sylvia’s pastimes included crocheting, knitting, crossword puzzles and watching her Denver Broncos. But, her greatest joy was spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. She was a loyal and faithful servant to the Lord. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fruita for over 50 years. Sylvia is survived by two daughters, Jeanie (John) Lister and Carol Serrano-Aarness (Doug), and one son, Anthony (Mindy) Serrano. She is also survived by sister, Donna Martinez, and brother, Cipriano (Mary) Medina. She also leaves behind 11 grandchildren;14 great-grandchildren, and one great-greatgranddaughter. She is preceded in death by her parents; five daughters, Mary Ann, Rita, Sarah, Katherine, and Anna, and one brother, JT "Tran" Medina. Rosary will be held Tuesday, January 13th at 7:00 p.m. at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary in Grand Junction. Funeral services are Wednesday, January 14th at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fruita with burial to follow at New Elmwood Cemetery in Fruita. A luncheon will be served at Sacred Heart Hall in Fruita. Memorial contributions to Sacred Heart CatholiChurch - New Building Fund.
