Paulena Lane was born in Denver
on June 23, 1922, and she grew
up there with her two brothers,
George Dillner, Sr. and Paul Dillner,
II. After graduation, she went
to Denver General for nursing and
earned her R.N. certificate. She
worked at Denver General for six
years, and then went to work at
The Wheatridge TB Sanitarium.
During the time she worked there, streptomycin was discovered and
proved to be an effective treatment for Tuberculosis. As you can imagine,
this was very exciting for her and she continued working as a nurse
for 40 years, retiring at 65. She then went on to be the owner/operator
of a small skilled nursing facility in the state of Washington until she
was of 80 years of age.
Polly, as she preferred to be called, married Bruce Lane on June 19,
1962, and together they adopted three daughters. She also had two
step-sons and eleven grandchildren. After, Bruce’s death, Polly went
to live in Oklahoma. Polly’s niece, Rebecca Daniels, went to Broken
Arrow, Oklahoma to visit her for her 90th birthday. While there, Polly
decided she wanted to return to Colorado. A month later, she happily
became a resident at The Residence Assisted Living in Grand Junction.
She loved living there and was a blessing to both the staff and fellow
residents.
Her outgoing personality has been a blessing to all who got to know
her. Her twinkling blue eyes and desire to bless others with hugs will
be missed by her friends and family. We are all blessed to know that
she is celebrating in heaven with her mother, father and younger sister,
Charlotte as well as her late husband, Bruce.
Paulena passed away December 10th, peacefully, at the lovely
HopeWest Hospice Facility. Dear Aunt Polly will be missed by George
and Hazel Dillner; Paul and Kim Dillner; nieces, nephews, great-nieces
and nephews and all the people she touched in life.
Memorial service to be held December 16, 2014, 10:00 a.m. at The
Residence Assisted Living in Grand Junction, CO.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Palisade Funeral Home.
