Steamboat Pilot - July 7, 2001

James A. "Jimbo" Cheney of Steamboat Springs died June 24, 2001, at his home. He was 43.

Jim was born Oct. 28, 1957, in Upland, Calif., to Sandra Turene of Ontario, Calif., and Donald Cheney. He was a carpenter/framer for the Fox Construction Co. of Steamboat Springs. He served in the U.S. Army.

He loved fishing, hiking, camping, hunting and was an excellent barbecue chef; his specialty was smoked cornish game hen stuffed with sausage. He had a very big heart and he would help out anyone in need.

He is survived by his parents; a daughter, Chelsea Belken of Watsonville, Calif.; a brother, Scott Cheney of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Rachelle Unger of Buena Park, Calif.; his maternal grandmother, Geraldine Turene of Ontario, Calif.; and his best friend, John Case, of Steamboat Springs.

Memorial services were held July 1, 2001, at the Steamboat Springs Community Center Park. Rob Ryg of the Euzoa Bible Church officiated. Cremation has taken place. Peterson Funeral Home of Steamboat Springs was in charge of arrangements.
