Grand Junction Daily Sentinel page 3 D Obituary - December 18, 2014

Ray Hendricks of Grand Junction,
Colorado, passed into the presence
of his Lord, surrounded by family,
on the evening of December 16,
2014. He was blessed to be under
the exemplary care of HopeWest
Hospice and, in lieu of flowers,
Ray’s wife and family would be
ever so grateful for donations of
any amount made to HopeWest in
his memory.
Ray was born on December 13, 1938, and was delivered by his father
in the midst of a winter storm that prevented his mother from leaving
their house on the eastern plains of Colorado. Little did the newborn,
Ray, know that within hours of his birth, the love of his life, Roseanne
(Chiodo) Hendricks, was being delivered in her grandmother’s home in
Aspen, Colorado. Ray spent most of his childhood in Cedaredge, Colorado.
He and Rosie (“Annie”) eventually found one another in Grand
Junction, married, and combined their families on November 30, 1980.
Ray and Rosie would camp, fish, hunt, laugh, and love together for the
next 34 years. Rosie survives.
Ray was an intelligent, hardworking man; he retired from Wagner
Equipment ten years ago -- on the very same day that Rosie retired after
25 years with Coors Ceramic. Over the last ten years, they traveled
extensively together and spent the winter months in Tucson, Arizona
amidst a whole new set of close friends.
Ray leaves behind his cherished son, Tyson “TR” Hendricks of Grand
Island, Nebraska, and step-sons, Danny (Rhonda “Buffy”) Moore of
Grand Junction, and Tim (Paula) Moore of Palisade. All of Ray’s siblings
but for his sister, Dorothy (Dorman) Frost of Cedaredge, Colorado,
predeceased him. He cherished his many nieces, nephews, and
their families. Ray’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren, by marriage,
were truly loved and nurtured by him: Derrick, Grant, Matthew,
Nyssa, and Stephanie Moore; Ashley (Struwe) Unverferth and her husband,
Patrick, and their children, Ethan, Mason, and Emily Unverferth;
and Michael Struwe and his wife, Sarah (Younger), and their children,
Reed, Finn, Grey, and Max Struwe.
A memorial service is planned for 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 19,
at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary in Grand Junction. Burial will take place
in the Cedaredge Cemetery immediately thereafter.
A special thank you is extended to Dr. Kurt Spriggs and his staff, as
well as the medical staff at St Mary’s Hospital, and the many care providers
of HopeWest Hospice.
