Fred passed away, rejoining his
beloved wife and partner of 45
years Tommie Lou, who preceded
him in death February 20, 2007.
Fred was in Hospice at home with
his family at the time of his death.
He was 90.
Fred was born in Meeker, CO to
Fred E. Peaslee Sr. and Anna M.
Slifka, and was the third of five boys. He had a very interesting life
starting with growing up in Meeker where he attended school and graduated
in 1942. His work consisted of a variety of interesting jobs over
the years. Some of which included surveying in Rangely, CO, working
for “Cuppy” Sanderson at his ranch and café until he went into the
Navy. He served with the U.S. Navy “Seabees” during World War II in
the Pacific on Okinawa in 1945. Following his discharge he went back
and worked on the ranch helping with daily duties along with guiding
hunting parties. He worked for Marcy-Shenendoah of Atlanta, Georgia,
during the uranium boom of the 1950’s on jobs in Colorado, Utah,
New Mexico, Arizona and Nevada.
Fred got together with Glen Green, his childhood friend, in Dolores
and worked doing mining, in New Mexico and Arizona until 1959.
According to Fred, while working with Glen finishing a section of road
bed for I-70 in Utah, they got rid of several cases of unused dynamite
by stuffing them in their outhouse and lighting the pile. Upon returning
to Meeker he had a variety of carpentry jobs. During the 1960’s and
1970’s he worked with Glen Green at Green and Green Construction.
He started his own maintenance and repair service in the mid 1970’s
until retiring in 1994.
Fred married Tommie Lou Sather in Englewood, CO, April 14, 1962.
Fred and Tommie made their home on Orchard Mesa, where they
raised three children.
Fred is survived by his daughters, Teresa K. Lefever (Allen), Whitewater,
CO; Diane R. Peaslee Perry, Grand Junction, CO, and his
son, Charles (Anna) Peaslee, Evans, CO; two grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren, and his faithful companion Jake the dog. He is
also survived by his brother, Don Peaslee and his family as well as
nieces, nephews and their families.
Fred spent many enjoyable hours woodworking on various projects in
his shop and puttering around his yard.
At his request there will be no services. Inurnment will be at the Veterans
Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Fred’s name to HopeWest
