John was born in Meeker,
CO to Ellen and Tom Lynch.
His childhood was spent in
the Hunter Community at 21
and J Roads, and Fruita areas.
He attended the Hunter
School and Fruita Union High
School. John spent his early
years working for the
McDaniels Dairy, and
farming Sugarbeets at
Somerville Farms. While studying welding he worked various
jobs. Johnny’s welding career began with El Paso Natural Gas
(Williams) in 1968, retiring in 1995. One of his proudest
accomplishments was keeping the Douglas Pass pipeline, in
working order after many slides. He enjoyed retirement years in
Battlement Mesa and Hurricane, UT playing golf, fishing,
driving around the valley and most important, visiting the kids
and grandkids. He loved to take the grandkids to the Dinosaur
Store for ice cream. John’s motto was "every time you cross a
cattle guard, you had to open a beer".
John married Kay Hale in April, 1956, and they had five
children, Larry (Teri) of Burns, CO; Louie (Linda) of Panama,
IA; Teri (Brad) Uphoff of Fruita, CO; Tami of Grand Junction,
CO, and Lonny of Fruita, CO. They divorced in 1975. John then
married Dorothy Mae Greer Withrow in 1976. John is survived
by his five children, two step-children, Stephanie (Jerry)
Oldland of Meeker, CO, and Jason (Sue) Lynch of DeBeque,
CO; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, and two sisters,
Betty Rader of Fruita, CO and Norma Spaid, Palisade, CO.
John was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jean; wife,
