James Richard Garcia
November 21, 1947 - March 27, 2015
Rich was born November 21, 1947, to John and Lila Garcia. He was raised in Mack, CO, and attended school in Loma and Fruita. He graduated from Fruita High School in 1966, and from CSU with a Bachelor of Science in 1971. On November 29, 1969, he married his first love, D’Ann
Pacheco at Sacred Heart Church in Fruita.
After college he served four years in the US Air Force, as a
medic during the Vietnam War. Upon leaving the Air Force, he returned home where he worked for Mesa State College as a computer programmer for the next 31 years. During those 31 years, he became an active member of the Lower Valley Fire Department, where he volunteered his time giving EMT courses, serving as a fireman, Assistant Fire Chief and the president of the Board of Directors. In 2005, Rich retired from the college and fire department. He loved hunting, camping, guns and 4-wheeling.
Rich is survived by his wife, D’Ann; daughter, Cheryl (David)
Fiscus; grandchildren, Taylor and Justin Fiscus; brother, Ron
Garcia, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews,
nieces, brother-in-law, Kent Pacheco, and family. He is
preceded in death by his son, Paul Garcia; parents, John and
Lila Garcia and in-laws, Bennie and Lela Pacheco.
Services will be held at the Sacred Heart Church in Fruita, on
April 5th. A viewing will take place from 5 - 6:00 p.m. with
Rosary to follow, and funeral services on April 6th at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
