John Richard "Dick" Moscrip
February 20, 1936 - March 25, 2015
John Richard “Dick” Moscrip, 79, passed away March 25, 2015. His wife and children were by his side.
He was born to John and Vera Moscrip on February 20, 1936, on the coldest, snowiest day ever in Alliance, Nebraska. Dick grew up working on farms and ranches with his grandparents and uncles.
He graduated from Alliance High School in 1954, and entered
the Marine Corps in November of that year. He was stationed at 29 Palms in California where he became a Sergeant with a
specialty in field artillery as a Sound Range Man. His time in
the service took him to the Philippines and Japan. He was
honorably discharged from the Corp in 1958 with a Good
Conduct Medal.
Dick was living and working in Kearney, Nebraska in 1964
when he met Cathy Fry. That summer he worked at the Climax Molybdenum Mine in Leadville, Colorado. He then moved to Denver to work for Steel, Inc. Dick and Cathy were married in Laramie, Wyoming on November 7, 1964. They welcomed Cheryl in 1966, and Shaun in 1968. Dick and Cathy settled in Westminster, Colorado. Dick worked at Cryenco and GBC, Inc. in steel fabricating before starting his own business, Kendo Inc.
Family vacations were spent camping in the mountains of the
western United States and Canada. Dick enjoyed the "CB craze" and was known by his call name, the "Colorado Road
Apple".Dick sold Kendo Inc. and retired in 1993. He and Cathy moved to Fruita, Colorado in 1999, to be closer to their
granddaughter. He enjoyed spending summers at the cabin in
Centennial, Wyoming and being a grandpa and great-grandpa.
His family and those who knew him will always miss his wit
and wisdom. Torie said “Papa Dick went to heaven to be in
charge.".
Dick is survived by his wife of 50 years, Cathy; daughter,
Cheryl Moscrip (Tom Flake); son, Shaun Moscrip;
granddaughter, Lexie Moscrip; and great-grandchildren, Torie
and Ryker. He is also survived by his sister, Mary (Doug)
Edwards; brother, Max Moscrip, and numerous nieces and
nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty (Paul) Sullivan; brothers, Bill (Marion), Bob (Karen), Rex
(Sara), and Jerry.
A Memorial will be held April 3, 2015 at 4:30 p.m. at “The
Shaun Park” - Little Salt Wash Park in Fruita with an open
house following at the home of Cheryl and Tom. Interment and services will be held at the Veteran’s Cemetery, Alliance,
Nebraska on April 27, 2015 at 11:00 with a celebration
immediately following at City Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to
Ronald McDonald House, Upper Midwest, 818 Fulton Street
SE, Minneapolis, MN, 55414.
