James LeRoy MAYNE, 75, of Gypsum died Saturday, June 2, at a ranch on Deep Creek outside of Gypsum.
Mr. MAYNE was born July 5, 1908, in Alpine, Utah. His parents were George and Josephine Merrian MAYNE. He grew up and was educated in Alpine, and he moved to Gypsum in 1919.
On July 19, 1930, Mr. MAYNE married Florence BRETRETON, who died in June 1945. They had two daughters, Anna, who survives, and Shirley Ruth, who died in April 1939.
Mr. MAYNE married Elva BATEMAN on Sept. 23, 1946, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She survives.
Mr. MAYNE was a rancher all his life and was working cattle at the time of his death.
He was second branch president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Gypsum. He worked with the Glenwood Springs branch of the church and served several times as counselor of the church.
Survivors include his wife, Elva, of Gypsum; five sons, James and Junior, both of Denver, David of Gypsum, Douglas of Eagle, and Donald of Provo, Utah; two daughters, Joalene Woodward ---, and Anna Joyce MELCHOR of Grand Junction; three brothers, Evan of Gypsum, Steven of Grants, N.M., and Carl of American Fork, Utah; two sisters, Lucille WEIGEL of Jackson Hole, Wyo., and Lyle PETERSON of Orem, Utah; 21 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Latter-day Saints Church in Glenwood Springs with Robert MAYNE officiating. Burial was at Rosebud Cemetery in Glenwood Springs. Farnum-Richardson Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.
