One of the pioneer women of Colorado and Eagle county passed away when Mrs. Alice Lupton died at her home in Casper, WY, January 31, 1947.

Born in Arkansas in October of 1956, she married WILLIAM LUPTON July 28, 1871. With her husband she lived for a time in Joplin, Mo. Later the couple went to Cripple Creek, and in 1881 came to Eagle county settling in Gypsum valley.

Mrs. Lupton lived an adventurous life. During their residence in Joplin, that was one of the toughest towns in the west, and Mr. Lupon was town marshal, and he made a peaceful town of it. Later in Cripple Creek he headed the law during the days of the great strike of that mining camp.

Mrs. Lupton lived in Gypsum until about six years ago, after the death of her husband, and the loss of her eyesight, when she went to Casper to live with her daughter, Mrs. Ora Fry. She retained her always keen faculties until the very last, and a few minutes before the end came, realizing that it was the end had come, told those with her that she "going to Heaven, now."

She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Bert Wilson of Eagle, Mrs. Lenna Bonar and Mrs. Fry. Mrs. Fry and Mrs. Bonar were with their mother when she died. There are also three grandchildren and two great grandchildren surviving.

Mrs. Lupton was one of the fine pioneer women who helped make a great country of thise western empire of the United States, lived a life that women of today would consider a hardship, but out which she got great joy.

The body of Mrs. Lupton was buried in Cedar Hill cemetery at Gypsum, Tuesday. Her aunt was the first person to be buried in the present cemetery at Gypsum and a niece the first white child to be buried there. The body was laid to rest beside that of her husband, Rev. Paul Shields conducted the funeral services.
