Betty Jeanne Shue
July 30, 1935 - May 1, 2015
Betty Jeanne Shue, of Fruita, died peacefully at home on Friday, May 1st. A lifelong resident of Colorado, she was born to Everett L. and Ada M. Corlett in Rifle. After moving to the family farm in Grand Junction in 1953, she attended nursing school at Mesa Junior College. She married Larry H. Shue on December 21, 1957 and together they raised two children, David and Judith. As a family, they divided their time between the man camps at Chevron in Rangely and the family farm on F Road, which is, due to Jeanne’s sense of its historic value, now known as Cross Orchards Living History Museum. Jeanne loved her husband and family, collecting antiques, hunting and cooking. She is fondly remembered for giving kids snowy inner-tube rides behind their 68 Willy’s Jeep, feeding big pots of chili to hungry snowmobilers, shooting a near perfect antelope that was listed in Boone and Crockett, being a fun mom to David’s college buddies and for being a devoted nurse to those in her care. It is fitting that her obituary appears on National Nurses Day. Jeanne was full of mischief, had a face that lit up the room when she laughed and a faith that could not be shaken, even in her final days. She knew her parents were waiting to greet her in heaven and her plan was to do the same as the rest of us follow.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Leslie and Lowell. She is survived by her husband, Larry; son, David (Mindy) Shue; daughter, Judith Shue; brother, Russell Corlett, and sister, Lois Corlett; five grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. Graveside services are Friday, May 8th, 2:00 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery in Rifle. Callahan-Edfast is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions to the charity of your choice.
