Arnold Acosta
September 19, 1927 - April 13, 2015
Arnold P. Acosta passed away in his home on the morning of April 13th.
He was born on September 19, 1927, in Hurley, New Mexico. He attended school in Hurley and received a degree from Western New Mexico University, in Silver City, N.M. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1951. In 1948, he married the love of his life, Rosalee White. They raised four children at their home in Arenas Valley, N.M.
During college, Arnold worked the mines in Grant County and
in 1952 began a safety engineer career with Kennecott Copper.
He was an active member with the National Safety Council and MESA. In 1976, he was involved with the formation of MSHA.
He was very active in politics and the community. Arnold was
also Justice of the Peace in Grant County, serving the town of
Central for many years. In 1972, he was hired by Exxon
Minerals and moved to Casper, WY, where he worked as a
safety and environmental manager. In 1979, he accepted a
position with UNOCAL at the uranium mine in Rawlins, WY,
transferred to Grand Junction for the UNOCAL Oil Shale
Project. Arnold was appointed to a safety commission to study
environmental and safety issues with oil shale, retiring in
September 1990.
He is preceded in death by six siblings and most recently, his
wife, Rosalee in 2011. He is survived by his sister, Octaviana
"Tana" Kramer of Santa Ana, CA, and his brother, Edward
Acosta of Hurley, N.M; children, Skip (Joyce) of Bountiful, UT;
Mike (Madeline) of Gillette, WY; Diane Babler of Grand
Junction; Tim (Jan) of Loveland, CO; 13 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. He will be missed dearly by his family,
however they are comforted in knowing he is reunited with his
sweetheart, Rosalee.
A memorial mass will be held Friday the 17th at 1:00pm at the
Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Grand Junction.

Arnold P. Acosta, 87, Grand Junction, died April 17, 2015, at
his residence.
A memorial Mass will be 1 p.m. Friday at Immaculate Heart of
Mary Catholic Church.
Mr. Acosta was a safety manager in the mining industry.
He is survived by three sons, Arnold “Skip” of Bountiful, Utah,
Michael of Gillette, Wyoming, and Tim of Loveland; a daughter Diane Babler of Grand Junction; a brother Edward of Hurley, New Mexico; a sister Tana Kramer of Santa Ana, California; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
