Leopold Sylvan Miller
July 24, 1925 - April 15, 2015
Leopold Sylvan Miller was born to Harry A. Miller and Fanny Bushoff on July 24, 1925, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He attended West Philadelphia High School and was drafted into the US Army, the Armored Division in 1943. He served at Ft. Knox, KY and Ft. Benning, GA, where he was released from service as a Buck Sgt. in 1946.
Lee married Shirley Teplitz on March 21, 1944. They had two
daughters, Joanne Young and Ellen Lynn.
After the service they settled in Philadelphia and moved to
Rockville, MD in 1953, where Lee became an insurance agent for Metropolitan Life. He was active in the Optimist club and played the drums in a popular dance band, a talent that led him through his youth.
He was widowed in 1968 and married Marian Haske, also a
widow, and became father to her children, Thomas, Timothy,
Gregory, JoAnne, and Daniel in 1969.
Lee and Marian became active at Halpine Baptist Church near their home where the winds of the Holy Spirit were changing things. They got their leadership training there. Marian was a seasoned musician so their first services included assisting Father Zampino’s monthly healing meetings.
They retired to West Virginia in 1980 where they continued
ministering and grew in the Lord. Family drew them to
Colorado in 1990. Lee joined Marian as worship leader in
Salida. They ministered with FGBMFI regularly and at their
home church, plus seven years at the Buena Vista correctional facility.
The Millers moved frequently for VA health care, so he
ministered at the jails in Colorado Springs, Littleton and now
Grand Junction.
He is survived by his wife, Marian, and Tim and Greg Haske
of this town; Tom Haske of Kitty Hawk, NC, Daniel Haske and
JoAnn Parker of MD; daughter, Ellen Lynn of Castle Rock, and Joanne Young of Merritt Island, FL. Grandchildren include Sarah Haske of Boulder; Michael Lynn of Boulder, and Amy Lynn of Aurora; Sharon Macak of Chester, NJ;Holly Parker of Washington, DC; Carolyn Parker, Joseph Haske, and Abigail Haske of Maryland; Kristy Scinta of Ashburn, Virginia, and Derek Mackey of Orlando, Florida. Lee had ten greatgrandchildren.
He delighted in all of them. He will be missed by
all of us, especially the men who found the ’pearl of great price.’ JESUS.
A committal service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 24,
2015, at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado.
