Memorial services for William Roy LEROUX of Bond, a pioneer resident of the Eagle-Grand county area, were held Tuesday, Aug. 5, at the Kremmling Community Church.
Mr. LEROUX was born Sept. 7, 1902, the third son of Owen F. LEROUX and Ida Mae WINSLOW. His mother's family settled in the Radium/Sheephorn area in 1882. His father's famiy settled in the Huerfano Valley when Colorado was still a territory, and grazed cattle in the Piney Mountain area in the 1890s.
In 1904, Mr. LEROUX's parents homesteaded the ranch northeast of Radium, where Mr. LEROUX lived most of his life. He ranched as a partner in the Leroux Cattle Company until 1957, and then with his children as Leroux Herefords.
Since February of this year, Mr. LEROUX had been cared for in the Walleridge Wing of the Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Meeker, where he died July 25 after a brief illness.
Until recent years, he was active in community affairs and as a member of the American Hereford Association. He was also active in various cattlemen's groups and was a member of the Colorado Honor School Board.
Mr. LEROUX married Lucille PIERCE on Aug. 21, 1935, in Estes Park. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last year at the family ranch, with all their children and grandchildren present.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lucille LEROUX of Bond; three sons, William Roy LEROUX Jr. of Prescott, Ariz., Stephen LEROUX of Beaverton, Ore., and Michael LEROUX of Radium; two daughters, Sally KEEFER of Vienna, Va., and Linda JONES of Meeker; a sister, Lois REED of Cody, Wyo.; a brother, Arthur LEROUX of Apache Junction, Ariz.; and six grandsons, William Roy LEROUX III, Tom KEEFER Jr., Mark LEROUX, James LEROUX, Vaughn JONES and Donald JONES.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Michael Owen LEROUX; a granddaughter, Pamela LEROUX; and three brothers, Leon LEROUX, Dewey LEROUX and John LEROUX.
In accordance with Mr. LEROUX's wishes, the body was cremated and his ashes were buried on a slope overlooking the buildings on his family ranch.
Memorial donations are now being accepted by the scholarship fund of the West Grand Schools in Kremmling.
