Charles "Chuck" A. Walker
August 11, 1935 - April 16, 2015
Charles A. "Chuck" Walker passed away at home on April 16, 2015. At the same moment, he joyfully joined his Lord and Savior and many other relatives and friends who welcomed him Home.
Chuck was born in Springfield, IL on August 11, 1935.
His family settled in MI after years of moving from state to state while his father sold Maytag washers. Chuck graduated from Alma College, where he met his beloved wife, Joan, whose father sold (the rival) Kenmore appliances. They both sang in the college’s a capella choir. After their marriage in 1956, they continued to sing together in quartets, duets and choirs and enjoyed many years of choir participation in church. After college, they made their first home in Albuquerque, where their sons, Jeffrey and Steven were born. Steven died shortly after birth.
They also were blessed with two daughters, Cheryl Ryan (Paul) of Columbus OH, and Penny Bennett (Jim) of Palisade.
Chuck’s grandchildren are Danny Walker (Albuquerque), Wade Ryan (Dallas), and Shannon Ryan (Denver).
Chuck would talk about fly fishing with anyone! It was
throughout his life his great love, with baseball a close second. He never gave up on the Rockies! He watched Nolan Arenado hit a home run a few hours before he died. He was also a talented wood carver, fly tier and avid reader. He served his church faithfully, as an Elder and Deacon and Clerk of Session and attended the Wednesday morning men’s Bible study group every week. Friends from First Presbyterian Church have provided beautiful support during his illness and he loved their visits, as well as those from the Grand Valley Anglers. He often said, "We are so blessed". We are already missing him.
Memorial service will be at First Presbyterian Church, 3940 27 1/2 Road, Grand Junction, CO 81506 at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 21, with lunch to follow at the church.
The family encourages memorial gifts to the church.
