Born June 2, 1921, in Cozad, Nebraska, Doris J. Johnson grew
up on her maternal grandfather, Alonzo A. Nichelson’s, homestead
southwest of Callaway, Nebraska.
At the beginning of WWII, Doris moved to Fort Collins, Colorado
for work. There she met a young soldier, Ivan V.
Wynkoop, who was stationed in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Soon
they were married. To this union were born two sons, Kenneth
in 1942 and Larry in 1945. After the war the family lived for a
time in Bisbee, Arizona where Ivan worked in the copper mines.
By late 1948 they were living in Hawthorne, California and Ivan
was building homes. In 1951 the family settled on a small farm
northwest of Fruita, Colorado where Doris was a housewife and
mother. After her husband’s passing in 1997, Doris moved to the
Denver, Colorado area to be near her sons.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, William and
Addie Johnson; brothers, Jim and Carl, and sister, Mae Cook all
of Callaway, Nebraska. Doris is survived by a sister, Goldie
Burris of Sun City, California; her sons, Kenneth (Marlene) and
Larry (Joyce); six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March
14, 2015, at the Elmwood Cemetery in Fruita, Colorado.

Doris Wynkoop, 93, Littleton, died March 10, 2015, in Littleton.
A private viewing is planned, and a graveside service will be 11 a.m.
Saturday at the Elmwood Cemetery in Fruita.
She is survived by two sons, Larry B. of Littleton and Kenneth of
Lone Tree; a sister Goldie Burris of Sun City, California; six grandchildren
and nine great-grandchildren.
