Curtis Meade Baker, Jr.
November 22, 1938 - June 16, 2015
Curtis Baker Jr. passed away on Tuesday, June 16th, after recovering from colon cancer.
Curtis was born and raised in Denver, Colorado. Following his passion in music, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Central Michigan College in Mount Pleasant, Michigan in Music Education.
From February 1962 to February 1964, Curtis served as a
Weapons Specialist in the United States Army. He returned to
the Denver area and worked as a General Manager of Villa
Music for many years. He simultaneously entertained in Aurora, Colorado, at the Windsor Gardens Restaurant and Lounge through the 1970’s as their organist/singer. He enjoyed bowling on the Silver Bowling League in Aurora. He was also co-owner of Michelle’s Music Studio in Lakewood, CO, where he, along with Mrs. Baker, directed piano and vocal concerts at Colorado Christian University. Mr. Baker, as he was called by his students, helped to launch many college music scholarships, including Ms. Meg Hammerbeck, Lamont School of Music graduate, and Mr. Thomas Chong, soloist with the Breckenridge Music Festival Orchestra in August 2005.
Curtis began employment with Home Depot in May of 2004
and he transferred to the Grand Junction area in 2013. Michelle, his wife of 33 years, continues their shared passion for music education from their home in Orchard Mesa. Together, Curtis and Michelle enjoyed serving as Parishioners at St. Joseph Catholic Church in downtown Grand Junction.
Curtis is survived by spouse, Michelle T. Baker; daughters,
Shelley T. Yilmaz, Shannon T. Emslie of Colorado, Cheryl
Baker of Michigan and five grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to Legacy Funeral Home will
be accepted for funeral expenses; graveside and memorial
service information to be announced.
