James Richard Hoza Jr., 62, passed away Nov. 2 in Fort Collins in the comfort of his own home with his children by his side.
Jim Hoza was born Nov. 7, 1952, in Gilman to James and Nedra Hoza. Jim graduated from Battle Mountain High School in Minturn, then set off to continue his education at Mesa State University in the hopes of studying architecture. In 1972, Hoza was drafted into the United States Army, in which he proudly served. After several years of honorable service to his country, Jim returned home and began to work for the town of Vail; he continued to do so for 30 years. Jim Hoza was a kind and giving man full of life, love and humor. There are an infinite number of stories, moments and memories where Hoza made people’s lives better; he could always be counted on to add a little humor to a situation, because that was who he was and will always be.
Jim Hoza is survived by his children Eric Hoza and Brittany Hoza, his sisters Vicki (Bill) Kepner and Kathy (Jim) Witler, nieces, nephews and extended family.
Jim will have two celebrations in honor of his life. The first will be Saturday at Mulligan’s Pub in Fort Collins from 4-10 p.m. A second celebration will be held Nov. 21 at Minturn Saloon in Minturn from 4-10 p.m. Jim will be laid to rest with military honors at 2 p.m. Nov. 21 at Riverside Cemetery in Minturn.
