EDWARD J. RUDER DIES AT HOME IN MINTURN. Passed Away After Only a Few Days' Illness of Pneumonia--Son of One of Pioneer Families of County.
Another pioneer citizen of Minturn was called in death last Sunday, Jan. 30, at his home in Minturn. Edw. Julius RUDER was taken sick the preceding Tuesday with pneumonia, and quickly succumbed to the disease.
Mr, RUDER was born in Quincy, Ill., Dec. 11, 1884, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob RUDER. When he was 9 years of age, his parents moved to Colorado with their family and first came to Eagle, where they lived for a short time. Mrs. RUDER was a half sister of Nicholas BUCHHOLZ, then living here, father of James BUCHHOLZ and Mrs. Hannah JOHNSTON, now of Eagle. Her maiden name was Mary A. ENDERLY.
Shortly after coming to Colorado, they moved to Gore creek, where Mr.RUDER settled on a homestead, where Ed grew to manhood. The ranch is still in the family, now being owned by John RUDER, the last male member of the elder RUDER family. Both his father and mother lived and died on the land they first settled.
In 1926, Ed left the ranch and moved to Minturn where he had been employed by the Rio Grande railroad steadily until his death.
Ed RUDER was an unassuming man, and exceptionally steady in his work, being highly respected as an employee of the Rio Grande, and well liked by his fellow workmen.
He is survived by one brother, John, Minturn; two sisters, Mrs. Jas. ROSE and Mrs. Henry ELLIOTT, Minturn; five children, Pauline and Buddy RUDER; Mrs. Dave WILLIAMS, Mrs. Richard ALBER, Mrs. Herman ALBER, Minturn; and two grandchildren, one of whom, Edward, has been in the armed forces of the United States for 18 months and is now stationed at an army camp in California.
Funeral services were held from the Catholic church in Minturn at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon, with Father KESSLER of Glenwood Springs reading mass, and the body was laid to rest in the family burial plot in Riverview cemetery in Minturn, Paul Andre having charge of the burial.
