Memorial services will be held for Ray KELLEY, longtime Homestake Valley resident, Sunday, June 25th at noon on his mining claim south of Red Cliff.
Kelley, 77, died unexpectedly March 18th in his cabin.
He was born Aug. 14, 1900 in Dumont, Colo.; was raised in St. Vincent's Home, Denver, and was a railroad fireman for the Union Pacific. He served with the Army in World War II.
Beginning with vacation trips during the 1920's, he prospected in the Homestake Valley and made his home there from 1947 onwards, He knew survivors of the Gold Park and Holy Cross City mining days and was a living link to Colorado's history.
