Grand Junction Daily Sentinel page 3 D Obituary - March 22, 2015

Rita Mary Mosher passed
away on March 17, 2015 at the
Hospice Care Center in Grand
Junction from complications of
Influenza B. Rita was born on
July 21, 1917 at Madison MN,
the 11th child of Nickolas and
Philomena (Trapp) Ecker. She
grew up on the family farm,
attended 8 years of elementary
education at St. Michael’s School, two years at Newman Hall
(a Catholic High School), and graduated from Madison Public
High School in 1935.
She attended Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis,
MN. After World War II she worked in Civil Service at the War
Assets Administration and for the Veterans Association in
Denver. While in Denver she also attended the Emily Griffith
School brushing up on her secretarial skills. After that she
worked in Civil Service at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid
City, SD where she met CMSgt. Don Mosher. They were
married in the chapel at the air base in August, 1953.
She lived with her husband in various air bases in North and
South Dakota, Texas, and North Carolina and in Southern
California. Upon Don’s retirement they moved to Grand
Junction, CO to be near her sister, Dula Chapel. Rita was a quiet
unassuming person who was always willing to help her family
in any situation. She continued to live alone in her own home
after her husband’s death in 1994 and spent a lot of time
working in the yard and tending to her roses. Rita suffered a
stroke in May, 2009 at the age of 91 and she was moved to
Larchwood Inns where she made extremely good progress.
She and her husband had no children of their own but were
like an extra set of grandparents to many nieces and nephews.
Rita was a big sports fan all of her life and was a fan of the St.
Louis Cardinals for many years and also a fan of the Denver
Broncos. She did a lot of reading and enjoyed crossword
puzzles. She kept up with the news, national as well as local by
reading the daily paper, especially the sports section. Hobbies
included reading, working crossword puzzles and she had an
interest in maps. She was active on her computer until her
stroke.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; her parents
Nick and Minnie Ecker; five brothers and six sisters; several
sister and bothers-in-law and several nieces and nephews. Many
nieces and nephews survive her. Local survivors are her sister,
Dula Chapel, and nephew Steve (Steph) Chapel.
Rita was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church ever
since coming to Grand Junction. She will be buried beside her
husband at the Orchard Mesa VA Cemetery. A viewing &
rosary service will be at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary on Thursday
evening, March 26 from 5-7 pm. Funeral services will be held
on Friday, March 27 at 10 am at Immaculate Heart of Mary
Church with interment at the Orchard Mesa Veterans Cemetery
immediately following.

Mary Church for Masses for Rita or to Hospice and Palliative
Care, 3090 North 12th Street, Unit B, Grand Junction, CO
81506.
