Jacob L. Segrest, 87. Grand Junction, died June 6, 2015, at
HopeWest.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Congregational Church.
Mr. Segrest was a physics professor.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy W.; five sons, Jake Segrest
of Mesa, Kinley Segrest of Fruita, Raymond Taylor of Pueblo,
Bill Taylor of Eagle River, Alaska, and David Taylor of Vancouver
Washington; three daughters, Darra Marionneaux of Shreveport,
Louisiana, Janna Segrest of Greenville, South Carolina, and Dorothy
Abington of Grand Junction; two brothers, Ed of Eckert and
David of Lufkin, Texas; three sisters, Mittie Goodman of Huntington,
Texas, and Rachel Spruell and Mary Anderson, both of Lufkin;
15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Jacob L. Segrest
March 30, 1928 - June 6, 2015
Jacob Lemuel Segrest passed
away on June 6th, 2015, at the
Hospice Center in Grand
Junction; he was 87 years of
age. He lived a very full and
prosperous life.
Jacob Segrest was born in
Haynesville, LA to Jacob
Luther Segrest and Amma
Havard (Segrest) on March
30th, 1928. He moved to
Baytown, TX where he attended school and later graduated
from Lufkin Texas High School, with the class of 1946. After
graduation he enlisted in the Army and served a tour in Korea.
After his discharge he attended college at Texas University and
Stephen F. Austin where he received his Bachelors degree in
Mathematics. Upon graduation he taught high school in
Nacogdoches, TX, where he met and later married Ramona
Roberts and had four children. He was recruited by IBM to
work as a customer service engineer until 1956, at which time
he began working towards his Masters in Physics. In 1960 Jacob
graduated with a Masters from A&M Kingsville, TX. He
enjoyed teaching physics at numerous technical and mining
Universities. He married Dorothy W. Taylor in 1983, and
resided in Grand Junction area until his passing.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy W.; his children, Jake
Segrest of Mesa; Kinley Segrest of Fruita; Darra Marionneaux
of Shreveport, LA, and Janna Segrest of Greenville, SC; stepchildren,
Raymond Taylor, Pueblo, CO; Bill Taylor of Eagle
River, AL; David Taylor of Vancouver, WA, and Dorothy
Abington of Grand Junction; brothers, Ed Segrest and David
Segrest; sisters, Mittie Goodman, Rachel Spruell and Mary
Anderson; 15 grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday at First Congregational
Church.
