Mary L. Rubalcaba
March 24, 1924 - July 11, 2015
On Saturday, July 11, 2015, the beautiful soul of Mary LeBerta Rubalcaba left this world to join our heavenly Father. After winning Bingo one last time, she was surrounded by family in her final moments.
Our beloved matriarch was born on March 24, 1924, to Santiago and Rafalia Gonzales in Delta, Colorado where she attended school with her seven siblings. She married Frank R. Rubalcaba on June 29, 1942. Together they had ten children. Mary was a hard worker, laboring in the fields and orchards in Delta, followed by work at Goodwill, St. Mary’s Hospital, and various assembly line work retiring from Holsum Bakery in Grand Junction.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening,
crafting, playing games, camping, and yard sales. She was a
deeply spiritual woman and enjoyed praying the rosary. She was a respected member of the Resident Advisory Committee at Mantey Heights Rehab and Care Facility – her home for many years. Mary continued to share jokes and stories with family, friends, and caregivers until her passing.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband; five
siblings; daughter, Lavon; son-in-law, Wayne Fladeland, and
three grandsons. She is survived by her daughters, Anna Neam (Doug), and Isabel Fladeland; sons, Joe (Marge), Ron (Rosela), Andy (Toni), Frank (Theresa), and Santiago (Flora) of Grand Junction, CO; Ben (Carolyn) of Baltimore, MD, and Alvin (Christy) of Las Vegas, NV; 26 grandchildren; 29 great-grand children, and three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Irene of Denver and June of Phoenix,
AZ.
Mary was truly a pillar of support, love, and faith for family
and friends leaving a lasting impression on those who knew her. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. She also had many “adopted” children and grandchildren who were special to her. Mary touched many lives and will be
remembered for her love of God and family, her determination, wisdom, strength, sense of humor, generosity, and compassion toward others. Her family is grateful for the loving care she received from the Mantey Heights staff and care givers for whom she was so fond of. Mary was a parishioner of St. Josephs Catholic Church.
Viewing will be at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary on Monday, July
20 from 5 - 7:00 p.m. with Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A memorial
Mass will be at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church on
Tuesday July 21 at 10:00 a.m. with burial immediately
following at the Orchard Mesa Cemetery. Lunch will follow at
Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
Donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church 330
