Rose Horn, 84, passed away peacefully in her home on the family ranch in McCoy.

Rose was born in Arvada on Dec. 20, 1930, to Otto and Bertha (Olson) Ramstetter.

She grew up in Golden Gate Canyon on the family dairy, along with her siblings, Gordon, Arlene, Kenneth, Charles, Nora and Richard. Her father passed away when Rose was just shy of her 12th birthday. She attended the Guy Hill School through the eighth grade, then started helping her mother with the farm and raising her siblings.

Rose met her future husband, Raymond Horn, at the local Fourth of July celebration, and danced with him at the square dance that night. Three years later, when he asked her to marry him, she told him, “I need to go home and think that over.” She said yes and her siblings bid her goodbye while she left with her new husband and milk cow.

Rose and Ray worked along with his parents on their ranch, just four miles away. They welcomed three sons while there, Carl, Gary and Dale. In 1964, they purchased the ranch in McCoy where the family continues to ranch today. Several years after moving to McCoy, they were blessed with a fourth son, Glen.

The family worked hard, side by side, to make the mortgage payment each year. Rose worked right alongside them, riding, irrigating and haying, while cooking and caring for the home. After her husband Ray was diagnosed with Parkinson’s, she had to give up the outside chores and care for him. She continued to do all the paperwork, cow records and finances until her last days.

She will be remembered for her faith, her genuine warmth, her wisdom, those blue eyes that twinkled and her infectious smile. Everyone who met Rose fell in love with her.

Rose is survived by her sons Carl, Gary (Brita), Dale (Rena) and Glen (Angie); grandchildren CJ (Melissa), Chelsea, Adam, Nathan, Abbey and Belle; and great-grandchildren Katlyn, Camron and Cassidy.

Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; her parents; her half-siblings Elsie, Leona, Ray and Ernest; her brothers Kenneth, Gordon and infant Franklin; and by her grandson Levi.

Memorial services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the McCoy Community Center in McCoy. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the McCoy Community Church.
