Louis John Rossi of Oak Creek died June 12, 4001, at Doak Walker Care Center. He was 93.
Louis John Rossi was born May 2, 1908, in Cagno, Austria to his parents Marino and Anna (Flaim) Rossi.
He came to the United States when he was two years old, moving to Glenwood Springs with his family.
In 1911, they moved to the Oak Creek area.
They moved to the ranch on Hunt Creek in 1922.
He helped build Crosho Lake in 1932.
Louis married Wilma Ellison July 28, 1937, in Denver. They moved to his present home in 1943.
Louis was a rancher all of his working life and also sold equipment for Minneapolis Moline Equipment Co. for several years.
He enjoyed being a rancher as much as anything he did and he also enjoyed raising certified seed potatoes.
He was named Master Seedsman of Colorado in 1943. He also enjoyed fishing and being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Louis and Wilma celebrated 50 years of marriage July 28, 1987. He was a member of St. Martin of Tours Church and a former member of the Knights of Columbus.
He served on the Oak Creek School Board in the late '50s and early '60s.
Louis is survived by his daughter, Glenda Grassmick and husband David of Rocky Ford; his sons, Dean Rossi and wife Susan of Phippsburg, Jim Rossi and wife Jan of Yampa; Wayne Rossi and wife Mary Jane of Fort Collins and Larry Rossi and wife Dorothy of Porterville, Calif; his grandchildren, Sonya Owings and husband Ray, Paula Maguire and husband Jason, Kimberly and Michael Rossi, Tommy Rossi, Janel, Jared and Jason Rossi, Katy Rossi, Julie Ford and husband Mike; two sisters, Emma Anderson of Tucumcari, N.M. and Edith Kirby of McCoy; and Bonnie Davies, his dear companion who has cared for him for the past five years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Schakel; a brother, Guido; his wife, Wilma, and an infant daughter.
A viewing was from 9 to 10:45 a.m. June 19, 2001 at St. Martin Catholic Church in Oak Creek. Monsignor George Schroeder officiated.
Internment was at the Oak Creek Cemetery.
Memorials in Louis' name can be made in care of Grant Mortuary to Yampa Valley Land Trust or St. Martin's Church.
