Kenneth James Lampert, 91,
of Grand Junction, passed
away on March 25, at
HopeWest Hospice Center.
Kenneth was born on May
21, 1923, in Sterling,
Colorado, to John and Ella
Lampert. He spent his
childhood there, graduated
from Sterling High School;
received his MD degree from
the University of Colorado in 1949, interned at Harris Hospital
in Fort Worth, Texas, and completed a pediatric residency at the
University of Colorado.
He served in the United States Army during WWII and the
Korean Conflict, until 1954. He married Lois Johnston in 1951.
From 1954 until 1961 Kenneth was in private practices in
Kalispell and Missoula, Montana. He then served for nine years
as Public Health Officer in Missoula, taking a leave of absence
in 1965 to obtain a MPH degree at the University of Pittsburgh.
In 1971 he became Clinical Director of the State Home and
Training School in Grand Junction and in 1977, became
Director of Mesa County Health Department, from where he
retired in 1989. In 1987 he was a member of the task force that
developed the Marillac Clinic, and became its Volunteer
Medical Director in 1990. He served in that position until 1999.
Kenneth enjoyed his involvement with Presbyterian churches,
serving on numerous community boards, singing in several
groups, collecting railroad memorabilia, following his favorite
baseball teams and the care of numerous pet cats.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lois; daughter, Anne
Richardson (Omar) of Grand Junction; Lyndon Lampert of Lake
City, Colorado; two grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Monday, March 30 at 11:00 a.m. at First
Presbyterian Church.
Arrangements are being handled by Callahan-Edfast Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to STRIVE,
Marillac Clinic or the Salvation Army.
