Raymond "Ray" Dean Barbee
October 6, 1924 - July 22, 2015
Ray passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at HopeWest in Grand Junction, Colorado.
Ray was a long time farmer in Mack. He was born to Leonard and Hazel Barbee in Stapleton, Nebraska on October 6, 1924.
Ray grew up in Orchard Mesa and graduated from Grand
Junction High School. After graduation he enlisted in the Navy
and was stationed on a cement barge in the Pacific during
WWII.
Ray married Nora Lindstrom on June 11, 1947. Ray and Nora
moved to Loma where he was a dairy farmer, they later moved to Mack and continued to dairy farm until his retirement. After retiring he continued to farm and stay active by woodworking and building mementos for his family.
Ray met Nora after high school and they raised a wonderful
family that enjoyed waterskiing, camping and many outdoor
activities. Nora worked at Montgomery Wards and helped farm
many long days with Ray. Nora gave many years of loving care to Ray in their twilight years.
Ray enjoyed spending time with his family, water skiing,
snowmobiling, fishing and harassing wildlife. He also loved to
watch his grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports and also was a big fan of the Denver Broncos and Colorado
Rockies.
Ray leaves behind his wife, Nora, they spent 68 loving years
together; son, Mel Barbee (Marsha) of Mack, CO; daughters,
Donna (Kenny) Miller of Grand Junction, CO, and Debbie
Davis of Fruita, CO; seven grandchildren, Kristi (Curtis) Hinton
of Fruita, CO; Michael (Christine) Miller of Fruita, CO; Tom
(Ashley) Crews of Thornton, CO; Jenna (Garrett) Hoisington of
Thatcher, AZ; Lacie (Dustin) Muth of Hot Sulfur Springs, CO;
Larissa (Paul) Anderson of Fruita, CO, and Jonathon Crews of
Vernal, UT; nine great-grandchildren, Jace, Caden, Harper,
Jaxon, Braxton, Nola, Mikaila, Wyatt, Tristan, Baylen and an
expected great-grandchild.
Ray is preceded in death by his parents and five siblings,
Delbert, Jake, Dale, Vernice and Johnny.
Services will held at a later date.
Ray’s family would like to thank Dr. Andy Mohler and staff, as
well as HopeWest for their kindness, generosity and sincerity
while providing care for our loved one.
