John Charles Roper

John Charles Roper, age 91, died at home July 25, 2015. John grew up on ranches on the Taylor River and Gunnison, Colorado.
John and Dorothy Walker were married in Gunnison on June 9, 1945. They lived in Gunnison and Cedar City, Utah before moving in 1953 to Grand Junction, where John was an electrician and a farmer.
John joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in
1970, serving in multiple callings. He and Dorothy were sealed
in the Provo, Utah temple on May 27, 1972. They served an
LDS church mission in Jackson Mississippi, from 1989 - 1990.
John was an avid hiker, horseback rider and explorer. He plied
every wilderness byway he knew, constantly seeking new places to explore, new roads to go down.
John is survived by wife Dorothy "Dot", with whom he shared
70 years of marriage; by sister, Anna Mae Wall; by children,
John Raymond "Ray" (Candy), David (Jeanie), Kent (Kathy)
and Nancy (Neil) Hymas, and by 13 grandchildren and 29 greatgrandchildren.
John was preceded in death by brother, Robert
and by sisters, Gladys, Helen, Evelyn, Ola, Lorena, Carol, and
Noella.
Viewing will be Saturday, August 1, from 9:30 to 10:15 with
the funeral service following at 10:30 a.m. at the Fruita LDS
chapel, 343 E. Ottley Avenue.
Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, can be made to
LDS Humanitarian Services or The Mesa County Land
Conservancy.

John Charles Roper, 91, Grand Junction, died July 25, 2015, at his residence.
A viewing will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Fruita LDS Chapel,
343 E. Ottley, with funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Crown Point Cemetery.
Mr. Roper was an electrician.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy L. Roper; three sons, John
Raymond “Ray” Roper of Tannersville, Pennsylvania, David L.
Roper of Grand Junction, and Kent Walker Roper of Smithfield, Utah; a daughter Nancy Louise Hymas of Grand Junction; a sister Anna Mae Wall of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; 13 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
