Lorraine Weston passed
away on June 5, 2015, at the
age of 80 in Redding,
California, where she had
been a resident at the Sierra
Oaks Home for the past two
years.
She was born in Grand
Valley, Colorado, on
September 11, 1934. Her parents were Paul and Bessie Lindauer
and she was the middle child of their five children. She received
her schooling in the Grand Valley Schools and graduated from
high school in the spring of 1953. She then flew to Honolulu,
Hawaii, and married John Brown on June 19,1953. Upon the
completion of his service assignment, they returned to Grand
Valley where the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad employed
John. They moved to Hyampon, California, some 90 miles west
of Redding, California in 1968, and she remained in this
location for the remainder of her life. John worked for a logging
company as a cat skinner.
During her time in Hyampon, Lorraine was a cook for a
children’s private summer camp and in 1970 managed a grocery
store until it was sold in 1977; she then managed the Wee
Corner Café and Bar. Lorraine and John were divorced in 1987.
She later met her future husband, Jack Weston, who worked in
the lumber industry.
Lorraine loved company and always had a cup of coffee, a
smile, and some treats for anyone who might stop by. Her rose
and zinnia gardens were beautiful in past years. Her grandson,
Nicholas, was the joy of her life. She lived a hard life but
always was cheerful and happy to help those in need.
At the age of 62, Lorraine had a stroke and later developed
arthritis and eventually Parkinson’s disease. She broke her hip in
2011 that required a long recuperation period and re-broke it a
year later. During her last stay in the hospital, her husband,
Jack, died on February 19, 2013, at their home in Hyampon and
she remained in Redding under private care until her passing.
Survivors include one daughter, Colene Brown and her son,
Nicholas, both of Hayfork, California; a brother, John and his
wife, Koni of Hayfork; six grandchildren in Redding; two
brothers, Ivo Lindauer and Sydney Lindauer of Parachute, and
one sister, Lynda MacLennan of Pismo, California. Her parents
and her older brother, Zelmo Lindauer, preceded her in death.
An inurnment service will be held for Lorraine Bessie
(Lindauer) Brown Weston at the Russey-Hurlburt Cemetery in
Parachute, Colorado, at 11:00 a.m. on September 11, 2015.
Reverend Bert Botkin, Associate Minister of the Grand Valley
Methodist Church, will conduct the service. A celebration of her
life, family, and friends will follow at the Battlement Mesa
Activity Center.
