THEODORE ROBERT BECK (1923-2016)
Theodore, age 92, our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away on January 8, 2016. Ted was born in Salida, CO on January 14, 1923 to Earl and Dessie Tomlin BECK. Ted grew up the oldest of six brothers in Red Cliff, CO where he began his career in the mining business working for the New Jersey Zinc Company in 1954. Ted accepted the position of shift boss at Anaconda Mining Company's new uranium mill in Grants, NM in 1953. He retired in 1979 as General Manager of the company's mining and milling operation. Retirement didn't take and Ted returned to work as Mill Manager for Homestake Mining Company in Grants, retiring from the position in 1986. During his retirement years, Ted enjoyed crossword puzzles, all things railroad, the annual family reunion and picnic at No Name, CO each July, and spending time with family, especially his great-granddaughters.
Ted was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Ellinora (Ellie); his son Earl; his brothers, Bruce, Buster and Quinn; grandson, Michael HENLEY; granddaughter, Michelle Rene JUSTISS. He is survived by son, Max BECK and wife Marcanne of Albuquerque; daughter, Martha (Marty) HENLEY and husband Mike of Louisiana; daughter Pamela (Pam) BECK of Grants; three grandsons, Bryan and wife Shari, Brad and wife Danielle(Dani), and Brandon BECK of Albuquerque; five great-granddaughters, Haley JUSTISS of Louisiana; London, Ellinora (Ellie), Britain, and Olivia BECK of Albuquerque; brother, Jack and wife Rachel BECK of Washington, Russell and wife Carol BECK of Colorado, sister-in-law Angela BECK of Colorado.
A reception celebrating Ted's life will be held in Grants, NM in early Spring. Ted requested that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to NM Mining Museum, 100 N Iron Ave., Grants, NM 87020, or the National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum, PO Box 981, 120 W 9th Street, Leadville, CO 80461.
