Funeral services for Marjorie HARPER were Tuesday at the Congregational Church in Silt. The Rev. W. A. CREPEAU officiated. She died in Rifle on Jan. 22. Burial was at the Yampa Cemetery at Yampa.
Mrs. HARPER was born Marjorie Elizabeth BROWN on December 3, 1902, at Garden Park near Canon City. She was the daughter of Leighton Stuart and Bessie Jewel Brown. In the spring of 1908 the family left Garden Park for Yampa. They traveled by wagon train with two teams, making the journey through South Park and over Hoosier Pass coming down to the Blue River to Kremmling, over Gore Pass to Toponas, then down to Yampa arriving in June 1908.
The Browns lived in Yampa for a while and that summer they lived in Egeria Park. They later moved to Yampa where she attended school. The family also lived at Albert Birds ranch below Yampa for three years. Her father and a partner bought a ranch in Egeria Park in the fall of 1913. Mrs. HARPER attended a one-room school on Smith Creek for four years before entering Yampa High School.
Mrs. HARPER was married to Edward Wilson HARPER on August 11, 1928, in Glenwood Springs. They ranched in Egeria Park until 1971 when they retired and moved to Peach Valley near New Castle.
Mrs. HARPER was a member of the congregational church in Yampa, now known as the Yampa Bible Church.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Grace BROWN, and three brothers, Paul, Willard and Todd.
Survivors include her husband, Ed; sons Earl, of New Castle and Willis and his wife, Peggy Lee of Lakewood; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Marjorie Harper, 84, passed away in Rifle on Thursday, Jan 22, 1987. Services were held on Tuesday, Jan 27, at the Congregational Church in Silt with the Rev. W.A. Crepeau officiating. Interment was in the Yampa Cemetery. Born on Dec. 3, 1902, in Garden Park near Canon City, Marjorie was the daughter of Leighton Stuart and Bessie Jewel Brown. In the spring of 1908, the family left Garden Park for Yampa, traveling by wagon train with two teams. They journeyed through South Park, over Hoosier Pass, down the Blue River to Kremmling and over Gore Pass to Toponas. They arrived in June of that year. They first lived in Yampa and spent the first summer in Egeria Park in what was known as the old Hale place. Their home was a tent until they moved into Yampa in the fall. Marjorie attended school in Yampa. For three years the Browns lived on the Albert Bird ranch below Yampa. Marjorie's father and a partner bought a ranch in Egeria Park in the fall of 1913. She attended a one-room school on Smith Creek for four years before attending high school in Yampa. She married Edward Wilson Harper in Glenwood Springs on Aug 11, 1928. They ranched in Egeria Park until they retired in 1971. The couple moved to Peach Valley near New Castle where Marjorie lived until her final illness and death. Marjorie was a member of the Yampa Congregational Church, now the Yampa Bible Church. She leaves her widower; two sons, Earl Brown of New Castle and Willis Brown and his wife, Peggy Lee, of Lakewood; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Preceding her in death were one sister, Grace Brown, and three brothers. Paul, Willard and Todd Brown.
